Meet Dr. Marquita

Dr. Marquita C. Williams is a distinguished leader in the field of behavioral health and intellectual disability services. With over three decades of experience, Dr. Williams has dedicated her career to addressing complex societal challenges and promoting wellness for individuals and communities.

Currently serving as the Interim Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS), Dr. Williams oversees a comprehensive network of providers offering essential treatment and support services. Her role entails managing initiatives aimed at addressing mental health issues, substance misuse, support for individuals with intellectual disabilities, and the impact of social determinants of health on behavioral wellness.

Dr. Williams is renowned for her systems-oriented approach to problem-solving. In her previous roles as the Senior Executive Advisor and Deputy Commissioner at DBHIDS, she facilitated direct dialogue between organizations, government agencies, community stakeholders, and provider groups to ensure inclusive policymaking and programming. Her efforts have led to innovative solutions and increased participation from diverse voices in shaping the city's behavioral health landscape.

Before joining DBHIDS, Dr. Williams served as the CEO of Germantown Psychological Associates (GPA), where she provided community-based clinical services and spearheaded collaborative initiatives with various institutions and organizations. Her leadership at GPA and MWilliams Consulting, a clinical consultation company, positioned her as a trusted expert in the field.

With a strong foundation in academia and clinical practice, Dr. Williams holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Temple University and has received accolades such as the National Institute of Mental Health Grant for Minority Faculty Researchers. She is also a sought-after speaker and media personality, sharing her expertise on numerous platforms to empower individuals to lead purpose-driven, joyful lives. 

 

Throughout her career, Dr. Williams has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and compassion in her work. Her dedication to advancing behavioral health services and promoting holistic wellness continues to make a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and communities.
